We offer four entree concepts at lunch as well as milk, sides, and a fresh vegetable and fruit bar daily. Meals are nutritionally analyzed to meet federal standards of nutrition and offered at prices that won’t destroy your budget. You may use meal accounts, cash, or checks to purchase lunch, but please be aware that if a check is returned for insufficient funds, we will be unable to accept another from that source.

Lunch Choice and Good Nutrition

Menus at Littleton ESD are planned using the Assisted Nutrient Standard Menu Planning System. The district offers a variety of meal choices and guarantees all menus meet federal and state nutritional standards. We work to keep sodium, fat, and cholesterol low and fiber, vitamins, and minerals high while still offering foods that kids love. Beyond nutrients, you will notice whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, and vegetarian options on our menus. 

Every day we offer four entrée choices at lunch. Every child also has the option of fat free or 1% milk and a trip through the salad/fruit bar. As part of encouraging healthy eating and activity, we supply nutrition education on the back of the each month’s menu and encourage our students to “pick five” every day.

National School Lunch Program

Littleton Elementary School District participates in the national school lunch and breakfast program. This program provides all students in our schools with free breakfast throughout the week, and it provides eligible children with free or reduced prices for lunch meals.

We serve nutritious breakfasts in the classroom during the first few minutes of the day while teachers are taking attendance and students are listening to announcements. This ensures that no instructional time is lost and all students are starting off their day the healthy way!

All participants in the School Lunch Program must apply for benefits every year. Completed applications are processed within 10 days and kept confidential.

Food in the Classrooms

To ensure children remain safe in our schools and in accordance with the Maricopa County Department of Environmental Services, food brought into the classroom for snacks and parties must come from a commercial source. They cannot be homemade. Items should be individually wrapped or served with disposable gloves to avoid hand contact and cross contamination.

Catering

The Food Service Department can meet all your catering needs! From a continental breakfast to an office meeting to an elegant dinner, we welcome the opportunity to serve you and customize your special events. Please contact the director of nutrition for the catering menu and pricing.

To provide Littleton Elementary District with the best-catered services, we request at least five days advance notice. Our fee structure for catering is strictly to recuperate costs; we take our food cost and add 30% to cover food cost, labor, and paper services.

SFE understands that schedule changes occur and the need to cancel may be necessary. We ask that you communicate your cancellation as soon as possible in order to minimize cancellation fees. The Food Service Department must recover all catering equipment from the event location.

Once you have submitted your catering request, you will receive a confirmation email. Please enter a purchase requisition to get approval for use of district funds, if eligible. If another organization or person pays for the request, please include this information on the initial request.

Food Services Employment

We occasionally have openings within our district’s school cafeterias for conscientious people who are enthusiastic about encouraging students to make choices for good health and always employ a liberal smile. 2018-2019 School Year

We are now hiring for the upcoming school year. You can pick up an application at the Littleton School District office if you are interested in one of our available positions.

These are part time positions during the school year and are site specific.

Requirements:
A valid Maricopa Food Handler's Card and an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card are necessary for employment within the food services department. If you already meet these qualifications, please make note of it on your application.

Breakfast in the Classroom

Did you know all students at Littleton receive free breakfast in their classroom each morning? Each breakfast consists of a main item such as an egg and cheese breakfast taco, a 100% whole grain muffin, or a pancake, a cup of fruit or vegetable, and a variety of low-fat and fat-free milk.

Roving Chef Program

Have you heard about our hands-on cooking classes? This program is an exciting hands-on cooking class that will take place 45 minutes before lunchtime. Your child will get to tour the "back of the house" in the cafeteria, learn how to properly sanitize and wash their hands, store food, and take temperatures. 

Under the guidance of our school district director, they will then help in the preparations of a selected dish. The area that they will be cooking in will be set away from the busy kitchen, and we will not permit knife use or open flames. Students will then present their culinary creations to the front office staff and enjoy a special lunch with their fellow chefs! Just have your children let their teacher know they are interested in this class and we will set it up for you.
