Curriculum & Instruction

The mission of the Curriculum and Instruction Department is to support schools in providing rigorous, engaging, and equitable learning experiences that inspire students to love learning. Through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), we support collaborative planning, data and assessment analysis, and reflection focused on student success. We provide high-quality instructional materials and aligned supplemental resources that support 21st-century skills and each school’s unique instructional priorities. Our work empowers educators and leaders to continuously improve teaching and learning for every student. Our students need to develop the following skills:

ELA Adoption

Timeline of ELA Adoption

September 8, 2026: Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Professional Learning District Committee members received an introduction to the ELA adoption.

Agenda: Requests have been sent to six companies. We will use the first semester of CIAPL to review and score the curricula using the district-approved rubric. The goal is to narrow the selection to two companies. We would like to bring the final curriculum to the board in January or February for approval, allowing time to purchase materials and train teachers during the second semester of the 2026-2027 school year.

October 13, 2026: Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Professional Learning District Committee members review three of six programs using an eight-page rubric.

Agenda: Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Professional Learning Committee is made up of representatives from each of the eight schools, all grade levels, all content, district and school instructional coaches, and school and district administrators. The 35 members reviewed Policy IJJ, Instructional Resources, and Materials. Each group scored three programs.

October 19, 2026: The superintendent’s youth council reviews student materials and provides feedback.

November 10, 2026: Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Professional Learning District Committee members review the remaining three of six programs using an eight-page rubric.

November 10, 2026: Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Professional Learning District Committee members vote on the top two programs to move forward to public viewing.

November 12, 2026 – January 25, 2027: The top two adoptions will be available for public review, feedback, and a vote. Both programs will be available at the Welcome Center Training Center and Country Place Leadership Academy. Viewing hours are 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

February 9, 2027: District leaders will submit and present the recommended program to the governing board, based on feedback from community stakeholders, teachers, students, parents, school and district leaders, the superintendent’s youth council, and the Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Professional Learning District Committee.
